Impacts of Stress


Stress is one of the modern day problems that remains the root cause of many new diseases today. Stress is an unwanted reaction that affects our body much more than we can imagine. But stress has become an inseparable part of our lives due to our changing food habits, long working hours, hectic travel, social and professional pressure to deliver

What happens when we become stressed?
-        Blood pressure rises
-        Breathing becomes more rapid
-        Digestive system slows downa
-        Heart rate rises
-        Immune system goes down
-        Muscles become tense
-        We do not sleep (heightened state of alertness)
Stress is more about our thoughts and how we react to a situation mentally.

Lifestyle Stress
Lifestyle stress is about leading a lifestyle that fails to give necessary rest and relaxation to our mind and body. Working round the clock, getting up and sleeping at unusual times, driving long distances without any rest, consuming too much of coffee, alcohol, cigarettes etc., are some of the reasons that lead to stress building up in our body

Problems associated with lifestyle stress include early burnout, cardiovascular diseases, urinary problems, reproductive problems, digestive problems, sleeplessness, eye problems, migraine etc., It can also lead to psychological problems, behavioural issues and can also lead to the breakdown of relationship and family problems.



WHO Statistics on Stress
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimate shows that over 60% of all deaths in the world are due to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) such as cardio vascular diseases, diabetes, cancer etc. which are due to faulty Lifestyles choices.
